all right this is the first episode of
very short videos on the Holy Week we
know we have a new emphasis from the
First Presidency on the Holy Week this
is something that my family has always
done uh since we had little kids and so
I'm used to this i'm used to celebrating
each of these days of the Holy Week and
I want to do that with you in these
short videos we already have an Easter
uh playlist that we have on YouTube so
if you're interested in something more
in-depth you can go to that i'll leave
the link to that playlist on the
description box in the description box
we also have a I I've put together a
study guide for the week that just goes
over several of the events in Jesus's
life here in his la in his last week of
his ministry and his life and mortality
and so if you'd like to download that
PDF and go through it yourself there's
some good some good things in there that
give you context and understanding of
what's going on during this week and
maybe a little bit more richness than
maybe you've had before and possibly in
in uh in studying this so it gives you
something to look at each and every day
here something to listen to each and
every day during Holy Week to make the
entire week something very special uh
today obviously oh and you can go to
quickmedia.com right there up near the
top on the homepage is where you click
on the download it's free the download
for the Holy Week study guide um please
go do that we'd love to see uh would
love to see that going out there and
people getting a greater understanding
of this week so today is Palm Sunday and
want to go through this this is one of
the first things I think that we need to
clear up for the entire week is what's
going on from this time forward in the
gospels you're going to see Jesus re
referenced as or referred as the king uh
many many many times and the reason is
is because he's fulfilling not only a
prophecy of what he's doing riding in
from the east gate with on a donkey but
he's writing in through a ritual this is
a ritual this is done all the time it's
part of a coronation ceremony so we call
it a triumphal entry i wish we didn't
call it that it is a triumphal entry but
really it's a royal procession would be
more precise and would clear things up a
little bit more for us it is the royal
procession of Jesus Christ and as he
comes in from the east he comes in on a
donkey this is exactly what Solomon did
right david told Solomon to go down get
his donkey and ride in from the east and
you ride up to the not the palace but to
the temple to be crowned and anointed as
the king of Israel that is what Jesus is
doing the exact same thing and this had
done been done several times the people
that are there that are by the way this
was done as a ceremony in one of the
festivals in the Jewish
festivals commonly maybe every year or
almost every year you would go through
this temple drama and that's how people
learned in the ancient days it wasn't
just it wasn't really through uh papyrie
and it wasn't through books that they
had they didn't have that they may not
have even been literate enough to for
the majority to see that they would go
to the festival principles and that's
where the gospel was taught that's where
the principles were taught the doctrine
and you would learn these things in pros
and in poems and chants and often times
that's why we see things are written the
way that they are so strangely in in uh
uh in in the Old Testament especially
but even in the Book of Mormon with
kayasmus and all of these different
Hebrewisms and these tools these
literary tools because you needed to
memorize this because you wanted to
bring these things back from these
festivals and have them in your own
family home evening in your tent and you
needed to be able to repeat these things
over and over again there had to be a
structure to them and and something that
would allow you to easily recall these
things and so this Jesus going through
this last week of his life is really the
fulfillment of that temple drama that
that happened quite often go going
probably all the way back toward the
time of Adam somewhere in there where
the king would write in he and the queen
would represent themselves as the
temporal king and queen they would
represent Adam and Eve and and they and
and the king would represent Jehovah
actually went into the Holy of Holies
and came out look at Psalm 110 the
Psalms are temple liturgy these are the
dramas and the things that were done
during that time of the festival so
Jesus is
fulfilling the temple drama the ancient
Israelite
uh temple drama this this week not just
prophecy right it's it's the fulfillment
of that temple drama part of what
Jeremiah calls the old paths before
there was a mass apostasy so those
people that are coming in and waving the
palms which is something you would do in
a royal procession and throwing down the
garments or the robes maybe even ripping
them who knows and throwing them down
are doing this in a way of covenant and
praise for the king when they say hosana
hosana they are saying "God save us."
very similar to what we do which has
been flipped or or what many places do
like in England where they'll or the UK
where they say God save the king or God
save the queen right done in a royal
procession or there at the uh um at the
abbey right and so um this is ritual
what is happening and the people that
are there are those that are followers
of Jesus Christ it's not going to be the
same group of Jews that are later
condemning him often times People say
"Look how fickle these people are."
That's not true that's not true we need
to give them more credit that's not
what's happening the people that condemn
him with Barabus and Pilate are a
completely different group of people
they're the elites the ones that are
running Jerusalem the high priests the
elders and others that are accusing
Jesus specifically we get this directly
from the gospels the people that are
fanfairing Jesus and and saying hosana
hosana uh are are those that are his
followers at that time right completely
different group of people and isn't that
interesting that they're saying hosana
and we use hosana with the white
handkerchief we might even say it's kind
of like one of the robes that might be
thrown out uh on the path of the donkey
is uh um what we do with temple
dedications see it's tied directly to
the temple this is a temple event it's
temple liturgy it's a temple ritual as
Jesus is going to ride and go directly
to the temple that day the next day
he'll clean it out but that day he is
going to ride directly to the temple one
more thing I want to cover in this video
and that is uh as you look at what's
happening with Jesus coming in there is
a way that he is following right he's
probably coming down from the Gihon
spring coming up through the east gate
and come and riding in unto over to the
temple um that's the way so I believe
this is Gospel by Greg here that that
John the Baptist was a part of the
ancient Israelite temple drama and this
is what is being talked about in in
Isaiah 40 prepare ye the way right one
in the wilderness calling repentance
prepare ye the way so we're going to get
rid of the stumbling blocks out of the
way for the king we're going to get
we're going to straighten the paths and
allow the king to be able to come
through on this so the way prepare ye
the way the way is the way of the
kings right it's the way of the kings
the new especially the new Melkisedc who
is Jesus Christ and of course that's
what the ironic priesthood is the icon
of the ironic priesthood is John the
Baptist and it is the preparatory
priesthood preparing for the ushering in
of the
Melchisedc not young men becoming
Melkazedc priesthood holders that's not
why it's called the preparatory
priesthood that is a falsehood absolute
falsehood right we all you think of the
temple the preparatory priesthood is the
ironic priesthood that we go through
before we go through the the covenants
and ordinances of the mazes priesthood
so that we can reach the veil has
nothing to do with the young men nothing
at all to do with the young men right so
the preparatory priesthood is spoken of
by Isaiah it's talked about in 1 Nephi
11 talking about Jesus and his
condescension but it's preparing the way
for the king to come through the new
Melchisedc to be able to come through
that's what we're doing now in preparing
for the second coming hope you've
enjoyed this have a great Holy Week get
