go all right welcome to Quick show my
name is Greg Matson and I am your host
in this episode we're talking about the
Kansas City Chiefs Harrison buter who is
their kicker right for the world
champion Kansas City Chiefs uh had a and
I'm using air quotes here
controversial speech at the commencement
at the Catholic school called
Benedictine College this is a
conservative School the media has been
buzzing about this because they cannot
stand some of the things that he said
and I just want to give you one example
of this starting off and we're going to
run through the speech a little bit just
take little blurbs out and and and put
it into a wider context but look at how
NBC News responded to a few of his
comments tonight Kansas City Chief's
kicker Harrison buter still in the
spotlight days after his controversial
graduation speech be Unapologetic in
your masculinity fighting against the
cultural emasculation of men the speech
which included shots at the lgbtq
community and urged women to become
homers has been widely condemned but
tonight that backlash drumming up sales
before this week many casual NFL fans
may not have been able to pick bucker
out of a lineup but now take a look at
this his jersey is one of the top
sellers on the NFL store the number one
most popular amongst the Chiefs and now
both the men and the women's bucker
jerseys are completely sold out okay now
I want to just say something here notice
what she just said right she just said
that the men's and the women's jerseys
have sold
out why is this controversial notice how
the media uses this term controversial
they've been doing this for 50
years even
though it is a
majority uh uh uh movement a majority
phrase a majority thought an
idea um that you know we're losing
masculinity in our in our culture that
encouragement for women to be
stay-at-home moms you know as if these
are controversial ideas but they can't
stand it and granted the pendulum has
swung where where these ideas have
become more pervasive and the attitudes
of the United States have changed more
and more over time to become more and
more Progressive but they always say
this they will never say it's
controversial that a woman should leave
the home and have a full-time career
where she's barely ever seen seeing her
kids and they're in daycare all day
that's not controversial to the media or
encouraging men to find more of their
feminine side that's not going to be
controversial to the media but what's
hilarious is that after he gives this
speech his jersey sells out both men and
women so the
women who saw this speech also agreed
with this so what is so controversial
about it it's it's
the the bubble that the media and the
elite bask
in blinds them to the real attitudes of
the of of the United States you know
between the
coasts the speech was popular for these
very reasons because these things aren't
stated publicly because they're not
allowed to be spoken when I say not
allowed I'm not talking about Free
Speech although sometimes that is the
case but the shame that is thrown in and
lanced at those that want to say these
things it is jump on the bandwagon of
progressivism or else now I want to
delve into Harrison's speech here we'll
take out a few blurs and dissect it a
little bit I think there's some very
interesting comments that he makes here
from The Man Behind the co lockdowns to
the people pushing dangerous gender
ideologies onto the Youth of America
they all have a glaring thing in common
they are Catholic okay so I want to just
just real quick on this uh I regardless
of what you think of Co he's talking
about gender ideology he's talking about
you know they have something in common
he's calling
out those that are of his own religion
and he's saying what is going on these
people are Catholic and here's what
they're
doing he's concerned about it well it's
not that different in our church
now it's a different in terms of the the
percentages of those that would push
these things such as gender ideology we
have a smaller group I would say that in
the Catholic world it's about a 50-50
split and that's why you have so many
conservative colleges like Benedictine
College and others that are a lot more
Progressive such as a Notre Dame and and
those that are under the Jesuit
tradition and you kind of Wonder is that
something that's going to happen with
the latterday
Saints are we going to have the the BYU
Idaho on one side and then the BYU
provos and definitely the BYU Hawaii all
the way on the other side of the
spectrum so though this is a difference
in pervasiveness within our religion and
the Catholic religion it's a similar
problem it's the same problem this is an
important reminder that being Catholic
alone doesn't cut it these are the sorts
of things we are told in polite Society
to not bring up you know the difficult
ult and unpleasant things but if we are
going to be men and women for this time
in history we need to stop pretending
that the Church of nice is a winning
proposition okay so again same exact
issue and he's saying it right on point
that's why this was so popular so is why
this speech went viral this is what I've
been saying for a long time we are too
nice niess is not a value or it's not a
value you
want when you participate in the SP
spiral of Silence because you want to be
polite more than standing up for what is
right then you allow the forces to
continue to encroach in on you your
family your your religion your country
Etc adversity is always there it's
always going to push neness is not a
good value niess is passivity kindness
is very different kindness is a word of
commission not Omission politeness
definitely a value but you know what
it's not anywhere near the top not
anywhere near the top and yet we as
Latter-Day Saints we seem to be so in in
trenched in this idea that that the
politeness is like this super high value
it is a good value but where do you
place
it and if we're not careful being
nice is going to undo it us that does
not mean that we seek contention and
strife but it does mean that you stand
up for what you believe in conflict is
inevitable in our world it is inevitable
as the culture continues to spiral
downward as families continue to
disintegrate as values are drained down
into the
Cesspool of our society
if if you do not have Conflict at all
with
Society then you're going right along
with it it's impossible not to have
conflict conflict and contention are
very different and seeking for conflict
is not what you need to do but you do
seek for the truth don't lose that let's
keep going here we must always speak and
act in charity but never mistake charity
for cowardice
as members of the church founded by
Jesus Christ it is our duty and
ultimately privilege to be authentically
and unapologetically Catholic don't be
mistaken even with even within the
church people in polite Catholic circles
will try to persuade you to remain
silent okay so Guy this is just this
just rings so true to me it is the
message I have been trying to say for a
long time right it is being silent is
not the answer politeness is a value but
it's not a high value being a member of
the church means that you are an
authentic member of the church he talks
about the Catholic Church here but the
same thing applies to
us the church founded by Jesus Christ
and to be authentically latterday Saint
and not worrying about being accepted by
the world which is what we seem to be
moving toward more and more that's the
sin the sin that is seated with things
like tolerance and niceness and
politeness again and obviously I have to
qualify this for those that
are usually going to come in and troll
against me here that doesn't mean that
we see contention or conflict it means
that it's inevitable that conflict is
inevitable and you know what those that
are opposed to those principles of the
Gospel they will use that in their favor
they will tell you why are you being
contentious why do you create
conflict and it's not you that's seeking
the conflict it's what's moving in that
is trying to change the
Orthodoxy the doctrine the Eternal
truths of the Gospel there even was an
award-winning film called silence made
by a fellow Catholic wherein one of the
main characters a Jesuit priest
abandoned the church and as an apostate
when he died a seen grasping a crucifix
quiet and unknown to anyone but God
Bishop Robert Baron said in his review
of the film it was exactly what the
cultural Elite want to see in
Christianity private hidden away and
harmless okay so look for this also
right I mean you see parallels across
Christianity I follow the different
denominations and religions of
Christianity and the the the same things
that I see in the Church of England and
that I see in the Southern Baptist
convention and that I you can see in the
Catholic Church the same things are
going on right because they're all being
influenced by the culture and the
question is do you stand up for things
or or do you go along with it we are in
a point where through technology the
world is smaller and smaller and through
social media shame has entered in as as
not just a potent tool but a dominating
tool I hope that we don't go to our
grave right and it may not be that we're
clutching on to the crucifix when we die
but if we're clutching on to the Book of
Mormon and we've never said anything
about it if we are clutching on to our
our Temple covenants but we never wanted
to live them publicly it's a great
metaphor our Catholic faith has always
been countercultural our Lord along with
countless followers were all put to
death for their adherence to her
teachings the world around us says that
we should keep our beliefs to ourselves
whenever they go against the tyranny of
diversity equity and inclusion hey hey
we fear speaking truth because now
unfortunately truth is in the minority
all right now some of Harrison's words
on women I want to speak directly to you
briefly because I think it is you the
women who have had the most diabolical
lies told to you how many of you are
sitting here now about to cross this
stage and are thinking about all the
promotions and titles you are going to
get in your career some of you may go on
to lead successful careers in the world
but I would venture to guess that the
majority of you are most excited about
your marriage and the children you will
bring into this world I can tell you
that my beautiful wife Isabel would be
the first to say okay I just want to say
something as he's laying this down look
why is that controversial why is that
bad and we we need to understand what
has happened here with
feminism in and and and its massive
contradiction to the Plan of Salvation
and to the principles of the gospel and
and the focus of family
i' I've brought this up in a couple of
podcasts recently because it's just so
striking to me I was at my daughter's
graduation uh college graduation a
number of years ago and there's some
girls next to us and they're talking
about their future and one of the girls
just right out says as one of them says
she's going to get married the other one
to her boyfriend the other one says I
don't need a man I don't plan on having
a man I I can have you know I can have a
baby without a man I can still have my
career etc etc and you know where is she
getting that it is indoctrination that
she's gone through uh either the public
has paid for her school or her parents
have paid for her schooling and this is
what she's getting out of it this is her
life plan we we our culture has those
that have pushed this ideology this
anti-am Antichrist ideology have been so
successful that it is now controversial
on mainstream news
programs to encourage a woman to be a
homemaker to encourage a woman to be a
full-time mother and actually bring up
human beings and spend time with them no
no wonder I we look look at all the
mental illness that is going on you
think that that has nothing to do with
full-time daycare that has nothing to do
with with children who are not given the
attention that they need from their
mother and possibly their father look
there's a lot of issues out there
there's a lot of problems that can cause
these types of things but certainly that
is an issue now I'm not saying that
everybody has to do that I'm not I'm
saying everybody needs the choice
everybody at least needs the choice we
will determine our own Society we do but
to say it is controversial to encourage
a woman to be a homemaker is
preposterous and the consequences of a
society that reaches a Tipping
Point of motherless homes and honestly
fatherless homes is going to reap the
consequences let's see what else he says
I can tell you that my beautiful wife
Isabel would be the first to say that
her life truly started when she began
living her vocation as a wife and as a
mother I'm on this stage today and able
to be the man I am because I have a wife
who leans into her vocation I'm beyond
blessed with the many talents God has
given me but it cannot be
overstated that all of My Success
is made possible because a girl I met in
B Class back in middle
school would convert to the faith become
my wife and embrace one of the most
important titles of all
[Applause]
Homemaker I'm sorry but that is powerful
that is that is
just if you have disdain for what he
just said
you need to really
self-reflect that she has embraced the
title of
Homemaker and that's a problem for you
how much do you care about human life
how much do you care about human
individuals how much do you care about
kids we are so stuck in a society now of
Rights what are my
rights what about your duties what about
your responsibilities what about the
Pure Love Of Christ that you offer to
others and where is that manifest mostly
and needed
mostly than with your own children again
if that's not your choice that's not
your choice that's fine my wife was a
homemaker she helped out here and there
when we needed her financially now that
we're EMP neers she works full-time and
she's very successful she's a very
capable and intelligent person but she
wanted to bring up her
kids do you have a problem with that is
that controversial to you both of my
daughters are educated one of them in
the stem
disciplines they're bright they're
beautiful they're high-capacity people
now they don't have kids yet but if they
chose to be full-time
Homemakers can't they use that ability
that they have to bring up the
kids to instill in those children
self-confidence and truth and and
self-awareness or do we turn that over
to third parties or Worse the
State a little bit more from Harrison
here I say all of this to you because I
have seen it firsthand how much happier
someone can be when they disregard the
outside noise and move closer and closer
to God's will in their life to the
gentleman here today part of what
plagues our society is this lie that has
been told to you that men are not
necessary in the home or in our
communities as men we set the tone of
the culture and when that is absent
disorder dysfunction and Chaos set in
this absence of men in the home is what
plays a large role in the violence we
see all around the nation other
countries do not have nearly the same
absentee father rates as we find here in
the US and a correlation could be made
in their drastically lower violence
rates as well be Unapologetic in your
masculinity fighting against the
cultural emasculation of men do hard
things never settle for what is easy
okay a little bit less on men right and
and and the issues that are going on
with men in the culture but still to the
point men outside of the home this is a
problem and
so babies born to single mothers is a
problem yes I can say that because
people are so afraid of well am I going
to offend someone are you going to
offend someone by saying that someone is
not in an ideal situ okay that doesn't
mean you don't lean toward the ideal I
did grow up in an ideal home my my
parents divorced when I was 6 years old
that doesn't mean I lean toward I don't
lean toward the ideal that I don't want
to hear the ideal and and work toward
that and and work toward that for myself
and my wife and hopefully my kids will
work toward that their situations won't
end up always ideal that's okay this
idea of inclusiveness does not mean
sacrificing the truth and the ideal
that's not how you do it don't offend
anybody right all right you just
sacrificed the ideal
